Fandom

Let's begin this blog by saying that I am no one important. I'm just a person with an opinion that needs to get it out on paper; figuratively. I am not trying to hurt anyone's feelings or upset anyone. I'm only stating what I see from my own perspective. I've been enamored with the Twilight Saga since it first starting appearing on the shelves. I own every book, every movie, and even a few posters. Recently, I've been curious as to other people's reactions to the series and their thoughts on the actors/actresses that play in them. I've seen the posters, t-shirts, accessories, and everything else Twilight related. Obviously, Twilight is a big deal. There's no argument on that. I've even heard tales of apps that can actually track the whereabouts of Robert Pattinson; although I've found none to actually exist. What I do know is as of this minute, there are 150 Robert Pattinson apps, 128 for Kristen Stewart, and 88 for Taylor Lautner. It amazes me the extent to which the series has blown up and I'm just on the outside. I truly wonder what it must feel like for the main stars in the movies. It's hard not to notice the throngs of people encompassing the stars wherever they go or the screams of adoration from almost every one. The one statement that always gets me thinking is when I hear fans say, "OMG! I love you!" I always want to ask them, "Do you really?" because it's impossible. Maybe they simply get so caught up in the hype of it all, but I can't help but think about it realistically. They may love the character portrayals by the actors or the idea of the person, but they can't love the actor themselves. Simply put, you can't love someone you don't know. You can't even like someone you don't know. From my personal experience, people are indifferent to one another until conversations get started and information gets exchanged. I'm sure, if I were speaking to a crowd, this is the point where someone would say, "You don't know that! I do love him/her! I know all about them!" Right. While I am sure that there are people that are close to Robert, Kristen, and Taylor that actually do know all about them, it's not likely that a random fan would. You only know what they want you to know and for Robert and Kristen, they seem to keep their private life exactly how it should be; private. While Taylor may be a bit more open about his life, I'm sure there are tons of things that he doesn't want the world to know. We may know generic things like birthdays, favorite color, favorite movie, etc., there's no way to actually know that person unless you've spent some time with them outside of the cameras and fame. Regardless of how much one says they love one of the actors/actresses, if they got to spend the whole day with them would they even know what to say? How to act? I'm sure at first they'd be shell shocked, but I would hope that by the end of the day they would realize that they are just people like everyone else. The only exception is that their job puts them in front of the camera for the whole world to see.

I recently watched some interviews that Robert, Kristen, and Taylor did and what stuck out to me is something that Taylor said. I believe it was an interview with Oprah on Eclipse if I'm not mistaken (and I very well could be because I watched a ton of interviews) but in it he talked about how it's almost like living a double life. He said that you go into one world and then you completely vanish and then you go back to your regular life. Now, Robert elaborated on that. He said that it does feel like he's in the eye of a storm and that he still can't really wrap his head around it but that it's a great thing because he can really appreciate everything that is going on around him. There's the life of Edward on the set and on the screen, but there's also his private life. When he's on the red carpet or the likes, he said that he actually uses an American accent because it's still acting to him. Kristen also said that's it's a good feeling to be part of the phenomenon because most people don't get to have their favorite book as a part of their lives and that's what it feels like with this series because it's so important to her and she's put everything into it that she has. In another interview that I want to touch on really quickly, Kristen, when asked about how she lived her life these days, she said that she still does everything that she used to do; there's just some places that she can't go anymore to do those things. So, it was all about finding another place to do the things she wants to do. It's obvious from all the interviews that I've watched that the trio desperately care about their fans and their reactions to the movies. They adore their fans for propelling the series to the level that it is on. They're also very grateful to Stephanie Meyers for writing such great books and letting them be a part of it.

I suppose what I am trying to get across is that while they are a part of the Twilight Saga and the uproar that it has created, they are still regular people with regular lives. Granted, they may be able to do more things than the average person with an average bank account, but they are entitled to their privacy. They are not who they play in the movies and I think it's time that some fans start to realize this. Of course I'm a huge fan of everything Twilight, but there has got to be that point where you realize that they are not Edward, Bella, and Jacob.
